Matera has no gay bars. It hosted its first Gay Pride in 2019. Matera is also the 2019 European Capital Of Culture. It's a city unlike any other. We've chosen some of our favorite bars & restaurants in town.

Shibuya is one of the best bars in Matera. It's a record store and cafe during the day. At night it turns into a bar with a lively atmosphere and DJs. The views from the terrace are excellent - as is the seafood and cheese.
It's on the promenade in the heart of Matera right opposite Purgatorio Church.

Taste some of the finest Basilicate cuisine at Ristorante Soul Kitchen. The restaurant is located in a cave, so you'll get the authentic Matera experience. Local wines are paired with dishes, as recommended by the chef. Try a selection of antipasto.
It opens from 12:30-2:45pm for lunch. It opens again for dinner between 7:30-11pm. Closed on Thursday.
